151 Scholarship Holders in the Academic Year 2026/2027

In the academic year 2026/2027, 151 students of the University of Mannheim receive funding in form of a scholarship. In total, three different scholarship programs honor the achievement and commitment of the 151 students: the Deutschland Scholarship, the Opportunity Mannheim Scholarship of the University of Mannheim Foundation and the Mannheim Scholarship of the City of Mannheim.

At the scholarship ceremony on Thursday, 5 November 2026 in the Aula, the scholarship recipients met their sponsors in a festive setting. Prof. Dr. Cornelia Ruhe, Vice President for Student Affairs and Teaching, invited everyone to engage in personal conversation. In her welcoming remarks, she emphasized the importance of the fellowships for students—on the one hand, to recognize existing commitment, and on the other, to give students the freedom to pursue their studies and engage in extracurricular activities. Dr. Herbert Noack, Executive Director of the noon Foundation, then delivered the keynote address.

The ceremony was largely organized by the students themselves. Marie Geyer and Karoline Wischer, who have been receiving a Deutschlandstipendium since 2026 and 2023, respectively, served as emcees in both German and English and guided the approximately 160 guests through an entertaining evening. Mannheim Scholarship recipient Hannah Geyer (voice) and Chancenstipendium recipient Nabin Shrestha (guitar) provided musical accompaniment for the celebration. Martin Broske and Tobias Roth, both Germany Scholarship recipients, introduced the “DeStip² Network”—a network founded by the students themselves to facilitate exchange among one another.

The personal presentation of certificates by the funding organizations took place following the ceremony in the Katakomben. There, the students had the opportunity to talk with their fellowship providers during an informal get-together and to make new connections.

Deutschlandstipendium

In the current academic year 2026/27, 138 Deutschlandstipendien will be awarded. The Deutschlandstipendium is intended for students with above-average academic performance in high school and during their studies, as well as extracurricular or non-university engagement. The fellowship provides students with 300 euros per month. The federal government covers 150 euros, while the university raises the other half through private donors. These may include companies, foundations, or private individuals. In addition to financial grants, contact with the funding organizations can also lead to further non-financial support.

Mannheimer Chancenstipendium from the University of Mannheim Foundation

Financial emergencies place a heavy burden on the time-intensive daily routine of a student’s academic life and can jeopardize successful completion of studies. There are many reasons for such precarious living conditions: these include crisis situations, displacement, a lack of family support, illness, or caring for a relative. Contributions from the former Rheinhyp Support Fund for Eurohypo Staff Members e. V. (RUFE) and the Ekkehard Foundation are making it possible once again this year to award the Mannheimer Chancenstipendium. Since 2017, it has supported students who, despite their difficult financial circumstances, demonstrate a strong commitment to their studies. Thanks to the Chancenstipendium, a total of ten students will receive support during the 2026–2027 academic year.

Mannheim Scholarship

Through the Mannheim Scholarship, the City of Mannheim has been providing three students at the University of Mannheim with 150 euros per month since 2011. Eligibility requires outstanding academic performance and community involvement. The goal is to support highly qualified professionals and emerging talent.

The University of Mannheim’s fellowship system is supplemented by the Elite Sports Scholarship Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region and the Kulturkreis Fellowship, which is aimed at future leaders who wish to develop their cultural competencies.
