Creating OER to Build AI and Data Literacy

Higher education institutions are placing increasing emphasis on AI and data literacy. However, these competencies are often not yet systematically embedded in curricula. Particularly in the humanities, there is a lack of subject-specific open educational resources (OER) for teaching AI and data literacy. At the same time, teaching and examination formats need to be further developed in response to the rapid evolution of generative AI.

This is where the AiDaLi (Artificial Intelligence Data Literacy) project comes in. Between April 2026 and March 2028, the Teaching and Learning Center (ZLL), the University Library, and the Chair of Psycholinguistics will sustainably integrate AI and data literacy into teaching and test innovative didactic approaches, focusing on a practice- and research-oriented concept. Students of English linguistics will independently create learning materials for interdisciplinary use.

The project-based courses will take place in the fall semester 2026/2027, the spring semester 2027 and the fall semester 2027/2028. Students will work in groups to create a wide range of learning materials, such as videos, podcasts, posters, and interactive formats.

The AiDaLi project focuses on the active development of students’ competencies: They independently develop content, reflect on the use of generative AI tools, and document their learning process. The key objectives of the project are to develop well-founded data and AI skills, taking into account technical, methodological and ethical perspectives, and to create freely accessible open educational resources. All materials and teaching methods developed are published in the spirit of open science and made available for long-term use in higher education teaching.
